As its name suggests, Nord-du-Qu\u00e9bec is the northernmost region of the province. It is located north of Saguenay\u2013Lac-Saint-Jean, Abitibi-T\u00e9miscamingue, and Mauricie. The territory spans 839,000 km\u00b2, making it the largest region in Quebec. It covers more than 50% of the province\u2019s total area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, Nord-du-Qu\u00e9bec had a total population of 46,673, making it both the largest and the least populated region in Quebec. However, population growth is expected in the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The territory is mainly divided into two municipalities: Baie-James and Nunavik. The main town is Chibougamau. The region’s population is primarily Indigenous, including the Inuit (in Nunavik), the Jam\u00e9siens, and the Cree (in Baie-James). As a result, you\u2019ll hear several languages spoken, such as Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
